  • The Academy is pleased to announce that Wendy Cooper has been named Associate Director of Financial Aid for The Academy of the New Church. She will take the lead role in managing the financial aid process, including production of financial aid information, establishing awards in conjunction with the Admissions departments and the Advisory Committee, managing federal and state aid and loan programs, coordinating processes with the Bryn Athyn Church School, communicating and following up with students and parents on awards and billings, and maintaining aid policies and procedures.

Wendy has been handling most of these duties for the past four years under the supervision of Les Alden, Director of Business Administration. She will report directly to me in her new role, with supplemental reporting to the heads of schools, who are ultimately responsible for admissions. This will allow for greater strategic coordination between admissions and financial aid.

Les Alden will be turning over all of his responsibilities in this area to Wendy so that he can devote more time to assisting Joe Weiss, David Frazier and Dan Allen in several key human resource projects. We will have more to report on what Les will be doing as we roll out some exciting new announcements in the next few months. Thanks to Les for his steady oversight of the financial aid area for the last four years.

While these changes are effective immediately, there will be some natural period of transition as Les transfers his duties in Financial Aid and as Wendy gives up her other administrative responsibilities in the Business Office.

For information about financial aid, Wendy can be contacted at 267-502-2630 or Wendy.Cooper@anc-gc.org.

  • The Academy is happy to announce that Jenny Blair has been hired as a school nurse, to assist Allyn Simons as the Director of School Health Services. Allyn has been doing a wonderful job serving Bryn Athyn College and the Secondary Schools for many years – largely on her own – and this professional assistance will be a big help to her and the Academy.

Jenny graduated from the Girls School in 1970 and attended Bryn Athyn College for one year. She received her Associates Degree in Nursing from Montgomery County Community College in 1992 and has practiced hospital and rehabilitation nursing ever since. She says she always felt a pull toward teaching and returned to Bryn Athyn College to pursue a degree in education, but chose to continue with nursing. "At last," she says, "I have found the perfect career to combine these interests."

She is working with Allyn on the management of what is a very busy School Health Office, with a special emphasis on developing the college health program.

Jenny married Jeb Blair in 1972. They have five children, all of whom have graduated from the Elementary and Secondary Schools.

"It's an exciting change for me," Jenny says, "and my life experience, combined with my educational background, have put me in a good place to begin."

It's an exciting change for the Academy, too.
